Super excited to have been part of another Birchbloggers Breakfast that was held at their newly opened store, Birchbox SoHo, NYC !!!
This time it was with, Marcelle Cosmetics. You may have tried one of their products from your Birchbox Subscription Boxes, let me know in the comments below what you think of their products!
*fun fact: Marcelle Cosmetics is a Canada-based company but it was originally started in Chicago!
9:00 am: Coffee and pastries were served as Birchbloggers started arriving in the store. We were taken to the lower level where the makeup demo was going to be held. Not to get side tracked but this store is HUGE! You are literally taken to Beauty Heaven!
9:30-10:00am: Makeup demo using Marcelle Cosmetics, that are all available for purchase on their website, Marcelle.com, at the Birchbox SoHo Store and Birchbox.com.
From prepping the face to a beautiful daytime smokey eyes, makeup artist, Catherine Laniel gave us great tips! From depuffing the eyes using their BB Roll On Concealer; using one of their eyeshadow quads, she shared the right way to define your crease and using two different of their waterproof eye liners to achieve that great daytime smokey eye. From memory, I will try to list all the tips she shared with us:
- Always start doing your eye makeup first before the whole face just in case of fall outs, plus less touch ups on the face. Any mess or eye makeup mishaps can easily be cleaned than having a full face makeup on already.
- using the BB Roll On Concealer: apply most of the product in the inner area of your under eye; with the roller ball spread the product using the figure-8 motion from the middle-outward to push the puffiness away the under eye. Blend some more using a soft small brush, then set your under eye concealer with a fine-milled powder to not get that cakey effect. She uses their Monochromatic Pressed Powder to set hers.
- to define the crease for the eyes, she picked up one of their eyeshadow quads and took the darkest shade and started defining the crease by blending outward-in and not the other way as this will cause a droopy look on the eyes.
- For the lower water line, she used a dark brown waterproof liner and a on her upper lid she used a darker purple one and smudged this to give it that smoky-soft effect great for daytime.
- She also mentioned to only use a little bit of their BB Cream Golden Glow during the daytime, but for an evening out, this would be great for an all over glow in the face.
- A makeup wipe remover is your best friend and will always correct any mistakes and clean any fall outs. Did you know they have 6 different type of makeup removers?!? You can check out all 6, HERE!
10:00-11:00am: After the makeup demo, Birchbloggers were surprised with a chance to customized their own Marcelle Luxe Gloss at their Marcelle X Birchbox Gloss Bar, and makeup touch-ups using Marcelle Cosmetics!!!
Step 1: Picking a base color. It ranges from clear to oranges to reds to pinks and the gorgeous violet!
Step2: Picking a finish. This what gives the base color some...dimension?
Step3: Picking the special effects. Every gloss has shine in it and they have 8 sparkly finishes to choose from!
You can do whatever combination you want here. You can skip the finishes or mix two or three bases or mix more than 3 or more from all the steps! It was a hard decision for sure! It was difficult to just think of a gloss combination I want since you cannot swatch any of these at all. But any combination you make, it always comes out really gorgeous! All the girls there chose such great shades and at the end we are all very satisfied and excited to come home with our customized lip glosses!
After he has mixed and transferred our picked shades, we had to wait an hour before trying them because of the hot oil-base that he used to mix the glosses. Good thing the Birchbox store and chit chatting with my fellow Birchbloggers were great distractions and one hour went by with no problem!
So these are the two finished products I made! The dark, deep red one is a Magenta base with Black Star finish and an Iridescence effect. The other mix I made is the mix of Sunflower Yellow, Tangerine and Magenta base shades with no finish or special effect. I wanted a gloss with no sparkles at all. I will talk more about these glosses on a future review including the other Marcelle Cosmetic products we received that day.
From this swatch you can see that this is a sheer gloss.
And as a bonus, I made another customized gloss to give away to my readers!!!
This one a tad different from my deep red shade: I combined Flame Red + Ultra Violet shades with the Black Star finish and Drops of Jupiter finish. I thought this is a very ready-for-Fall shade. I don't have any swatches of this gloss because I don't want to open the giveaway items, for sanitary purposes.
