Kat Von D Shade + Light Contour Quad

I have been wearing less and less makeup lately as the temperatures keep getting hotter and more humid. My skin just does not like the sweat and makeup combo and breaks out easily, and so makeup reviews this Summer is going to be minimal. I've actually just been using the same makeup products lately as well, and the
KVD Shade + Light Contour Quad
have been in rotation with another palette I have been using lately (which I will review later this month).

"The true inspiration behind Shade + Light comes from all these years of trying to understand the use of shadows and light within the portraits I draw."—Kat Von D

About the products

Shade + Light Contour Brush

This is a double ended eyeshadow brush with a pencil brush on one end, and a small dome brush on the other end. The pencil brush is used to easily apply the shadow exactly where you want to place it, while the small dome brush is to easily blend and soften the shadows.

Shade + Light Contour Quad in Rust

This is an all matte, high pigmented, silky and blendable eyeshadow palette that comes in this coffin-shaped packaging. Each quad comes with an easy to follow how-to insert illustrated by Kat Von D so you can lift, define, widen, and narrow eyes with color.

The biggest pan in the quad is your BASE, which is a light mauve pink shade.  The dark reddish-brown shade is to DEFINE. The reddish-orange terracotta shade is the CONTOUR shade. The HIGHLIGHT shade is this white shadow with fine shimmers in it.

My Thoughts

This is a very pigmented product, you don't need a lot on your brush to get some color for your eye makeup. It easily blends but not to the point it looks all muddy. It's a finely milled product so there will be some fall out. I always use an eyeshadow primer with my eye makeups so I'm not sure how long this last without it.
The packaging is very travel-friendly and so compact, it's great to keep in the makeup bag. The palette comes with a nice mirror inside, which is a surprise since not a lot of small palettes have mirror in them.
I use the Contour Brush in a different way than the description. I use the pencil brush to apply shadow on my lower lash line and the dome brush end to apply the BASE shadow all over the lids.

I have been loving the terracotta shadow on my crease, which is a nice pop of color on the eyes and it's very different from my usual go-to of adding color on the center of lids!

Overall, this is a great quad to have, and I do want to get the other three palettes in the future. This is my very first eyeshadow palette from Kat Von D and I am very impressed how silky smooth and highly pigmented it is. From its packaging to the quality of the shadows, I would buy this even if it was priced higher.

Have you tried any Kat Von D eyeshadows?
