Urban Decay Naked: Ultra Definition Complexion Kit Review

Before I started my No Buy Beauty Challenge, I went to Sephora to buy myself a liquid foundation. I have only used my BareMinerals Loose Foundation and nothing else! I have used drugstore foundations before but I suck at matching my skin color so I have stayed away from that, except for my fave Physicians Formula Super BB Powder. I was breaking out a lot then so I want a foundation that will have better coverage than my BareMinerals, so I thought it is time to give the liquid foundation a chance again.

So Sephora has this new foundation matching system called Sephora + Pantone Color IQ, have you heard or tried it yet?
"It identifies your Color IQ number then pinpoints your foundation match from over 1,500 formulas."

Very nifty right?!? I was skeptical about it that I held on to the list they emailed me for a month until I decided to go see if the results do match me. I did love the options they gave me though, from CoverFX to Benefit to Tarte to Guerlain to Urban Decay foundations.

Long story short and two hours later in Sephora, I ended up getting this set:  Urban Decay Start Getting Naked Ultra Definition Complexion Kit ($49). This includes the following:

  • 0.5 oz B6 Vitamin-Infused Complexion Prep Spray
  • 0.5 oz Naked Skin Beauty Balm
  • 1 oz Naked Skin Weightless Ultra Definition Liquid Makeup

This foundation is nothing new in the beauty world since I have read pretty good reviews on this everywhere! Same with their Naked Skin Beauty Balm which I actually received a sample size from one of my Ipsy bags.
"A five-in-one beauty balm that minimizes the appearance of pores, lines, wrinkles, and redness instantly for skin that looks firmer in eight weeks. "

The kit says to use this after spraying the prep spray and before applying the foundation on. This has no coverage on me at all. It did help to reduce the redness around my nose, but not much. I really can't wear this alone since I don't see this evening out my skin tone and covering my acne scars and minimizing my pores. After a while too I went back to using my HourGlass Primer before I put on the foundation since I don't see this helping smoothing out my skin before I apply the foundation. This is basically a dud to me.

The B6 Vitamin-Infused Complexion Prep Spray is a new product though from the Urban Decay line of make-up sprays.

"A soothing prep spray that features the first stabilized form of vitamin B6, which absorbs oil, minimizes pores, and reduces redness. "

You spray it before applying your make-up on, before going to bed or anytime your skin needs some hydration. I love this spray bottle! It spritz this very fine mist onto my face, which the skin absorbs right away. I will give this a credit with all my other new skin care products on how my complexion has improved. I'm not sure with all it's claims but knowing this has vitamins and antioxidants, paraben-, phthalate- and sulfates-FREE sounds great to me!

So the Sephora ColorIQ matched me with Urban Decays Skin Weghtless Ultra Definition Liquid Makeup in the shade 8.0

"This formula helps skin achieve a natural, illuminated and bright finish— like the beautiful skin you were born with. Naked Skin is formulated with light-diffusing spheres, transforming you to look professionally retouched. Buildable coverage allows women to customize their look."

The way their numbering system works is all shades that ends in ".0" are for warmer undertones and the shades that ends in ".5" are for cooler undertones. *Michelle Phan has a great post explaining on finding your undertone, here.

The following pictures below show how this Naked Foundation gives my skin that airbrush finished look. This has a demi-matte finish so it will still give you that nice luminous glow like from within your skin!

!WARNING! The only way for me to show you how great this product works with my skin and how Sephora's ColorIQ perfectly matched me with this shade, is to take a picture of a before and after the foundation application. The following pictures will include my bare face, as in NO MAKEUP AT ALL FACE! If you guys don't want to see this, skip to the bottom of the pics to read what I fully think of it.

BEFORE (just the Beauty Balm all over)
Left side is with UD Naked Foundation; Right: None

Full Face with UD Naked shade 8.0

I know my face is looking flat here but this is just the foundation alone and I have not added any bronzer or blush or highlight or any matte powder to set it in.

I hope you can see how the foundation has given my skin an even finish. It does have a medium coverage and it doesn't even feel like I'm wearing any foundation! After a couple of hours of wearing this, I do needed to blot around my T-zone area (forehead and nose), but all in all my makeup stayed put pretty great!

This is just one pump of the foundation, and using a Sigma F80 Flat top brush, I buffed the foundation all over. It minimized the pores by my nose and covered my acne scars and reduced the redness everywhere. I do love this foundation. This has been my go-to foundation the past month when I know I will be out all day or going out to meet family and friends.

Do you guys have a favorite foundation out there that even with all these new products coming out, you still keep grabbing for that one? drugstore or high end or imported: Canadian, Korean or European brand?!
