Review: Eddie Funkhouser's Belle De Jour "Sassy" + GIVEAWAY!!!

Samples provided by EddieFunkhouser

This Belle De Jour "Sassy" collection from Eddie Funkhouser  is the perfect collection for the Summer. It has such beautiful colors that can be worn from day to night.
I think it will compliment that beautiful Summer tan you have going on!
"Emerge from Winter dreamspace and awaken to the newly-budding realm of Spring. Reinvent eyes in Hyperreal colors of shimmering coral and pastel pinks. Blossom with bright pink cheeks and vivid magenta-rose lip, faceted in hot pink gloss."

The first time I have heard of this brand was from HBA Global expo, I attended here in NYC at Jacobs Javits Center. At the end of the expo week they held their HBA International Package Design Awards: best packaging cosmetic, skin care, personal care, fragrance and so on. A lot of the brands that were nominated were beauty brands we all know, L'Oreal, Urban Decay, SK-II and for one of the categories,  Eddie Funkhouser's Quattro Variable Lash Mascara was nominated and won!
I will discuss this product some more at a separate post. Even though this mascara is included in this kit, I do want to write a separate post on it since this one may turn into a 5-hour long read if I don't!
I congratulated them on their Instagram page (@eddiefunkhouser) as they sadly did not get to attend the show and receive their award. In their Instagram is where I found out about this beautiful Belle De Jour "Sassy" collection. I suggest to start following them as well on all their social medias to stay updated and get some great info and tips about their products!

About the brand:
This is a brand created by the very talented, veteran makeup artist, Eddie Funkhouser. He wanted that minimalist packaging look into it with top-grade formula that was mostly created in Italy. He wanted to bring that luxury feel of makeup at an affordable price!

Now let's check out the products in the Belle De Jour Summer Look 2014 "Sassy" collection! Just click on each product name below to take you directly to the eddie funkhouser site where you can purchase the products.

Four expertly hand selected shades to create a range of looks from natural to glamorous! The following shades in this palette are as follows:
  • Coy - white shade with a pearlescent finish
  • Sassy - rosy-pink shimmery shade
  • Risque - matte brown
  • Demure - irridiscent taupe shade

"Premium micromilled pigments make for a silky smooth application."
There are three other palettes that this comes in:
Ultimate Smokey Eye, Girls On Film and Haute Boheme
To get an idea on how to play with this palette, I went to follow the face chart on the website and have posted the look HERE! I have been using this palette as my day-to-day eye color. I have been applying Demure all over the lid and a bit of Coy in the inner corners and I am out the door! I have also done an evening smokey eye look with this palette (Sassy + Demure + Risque). Packaged in this simple black case with a clear plastic window on top, makes it easy to see the eye shadows when I am grabbing it from the drawer.
I always use an eye primer when I do my eyes and though this is a very pigmented palette, I love how vibrant the colors are when I use a primer underneath. Because of its finely milled formula, powder can get everywhere so be careful not to get the excess powder all over and get mixed with the other shades. Tap your brush after dipping it in the palette  and before applying it on the lids to avoid any fall outs on the face.
For testing purposes, I did wear these shadows without a primer one day around the house and it did last the whole afternoon. I would rather use an eye primer since it helps to show the color more on my eyes and with this Summer heat, it will help to make it last longer.

This arm swatch is heavily swiped to show you the shades, with no eye primer underneath. With an eye primer on my lids, I would not need to layer as much to get this much color to show. If you are not a fan of eye primers, this applied by your finger tips will still give you a nice wash of color on your lids.

"Lightweight, low-tack formula that provides a brilliant, color-rich, multidimensional finish to lips in universal shades. Vitamins A, C and E nourish and brighten and Aloe Vera moisturizes and smooth."
I have worn this alone and on top of the lipstick from this collection and it is just gorgeous! The bright magenta color just brighten the lips and is so perfect to wear this Summer. It leaves a nice shine on the lips with no tacky feel to it.
The lip gloss comes in 11 other shades that you can also check out on the website!

"Saturates lips with vibrant hues and light reflecting particles for a creamy finish and eye-catching, multi-dimensional effects. Lips stay hydrated and nourished with flower and mango fruit extracts and Vitamis C & E."
This lipstick is not as dark on the lips as it photos. On the website it is described as this "metallic grape" shade. I prefer to wear this at night with a neutral eye. A dab of this to give that stain-look effect on the lips is great for a daytime look. Very creamy finish, the shimmers are very fine so you don't feel that grainy glitter in it and it definitely kept my lips moisturized. This will come off when wiped off and no stain will be left on the lips so you do need to re-apply after eating or drinking. This product comes in 7 other shades  with different finishes (*and I want them all!).

$8.99
"highly blendable, micro milled blush powder that gives cheeks a radiant flush"
This is a bright pink blush with subtle shimmers to it. It's easy to blend and gives the cheeks that nice pink-flush of color without being overly shimmery. At first I thought this is a matte blush but after swatching and blending it out again on my wrist, I see very fine shimmer that is not really noticeable on the cheeks.
Just like the eye palette this has a nice window in the packaging to clearly see the blush color.
This blush comes in 3 other shades that is pretty neutral and can be worn with a variety of different looks!

$9.99
"hologram-inspired impact to eyes for an amazing accent of multidimensional, fashion-forward color."
This is described as a "metallic luscious grape" shade in the site. I have not played with this liner as much, but I do like the fine brush on this for easy application to line the eyes. This color will definitely add some statement to your look, give those eyes some pop of color! The formula is a bit liquid-y but you only need a little for each eye. The shimmers are pretty fine as well, it's not that chunky glittery type kind.
It comes in two other colors: Indica (metallic ocean blue) & Kush (metallic harvest green)

COLOR SWATCHES !!!

My Verdict:
I love the eye palette the most because of the easy wearable shades it comes in. The lip products are moisturizing and not-drying at all. I do not like to compare products by its price range but these are definitely worth it. You are getting some great quality products for drugstore price here. I saw on their Instagram that they have launched a display at a RiteAid store in California so here's hoping they will be in all RiteAid stores in the country. They are also working on getting international shipping for their website so to all my international readers, just be patient and keep an eye out for an announcement on their Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. If you have any questions or comments about their makeup add the hashtag #ASKEDDIE and Eddie Funkhouser himself will directly answer and help you out! He is very much active on all his social media which is really great, so don't be shy to say Hi!

update 7/22/14: If you are in the NYC area there are two RiteAid locations that are carrying their line!
Hudson Street
534 Hudson Street
New York, NY 10014

World Financial Trade Center
250 Vesey St.
New York, NY 10281

I love the simple shiny black packaging in these and in simple font the brand name stamped on each products.
I don't think I have any makeup that is Made in Italy and that kinda makes me feel fancy as I have never even visited Italy before! Just a minor happy moment for me there that's all.
Check out their website to browse the other beautiful makeup products they offer; to shop their products; what other retail stores carry this brand and so many more. The site again is:
