Review: Dermalogica Skin Hydrating Booster

Samples provided by iFabbo

*I will be trying out a new outline on how I write my reviews. Let me know if you prefer the old to the new or vice versa.

The changing of season definitely puts a toll on my super sensitive skin! Oh the breakouts!
And to add to that, my on and off relationship with pollen! I can tolerate all these pollen up to a point - some specific tree or grass or something in the air will give me the itchy nose and non-stop sneezing. Sorry for the whiny intro but you may appreciate this review more after I share you how my skin situation is.

Dermalogica is a very well known skincare brand that was born in 1986 by a UK Skin Therapist, Jane Wurwand. She wanted a product line that will focus on the skin's health as opposed to "beauty".
"The vision was clear – a product line free of common irritants and ingredients that could cause breakouts (including lanolin, SD alcohol, mineral oil, artificial colors and fragrances) that would improve skin health, and were only available from qualified skin care professionals trained at The International Dermal Institute."
About the product

Dermalogica's Skin Hydrating Booster comes only in 30ml/ 1fl oz. bottle that retails for $50 in Dermalogica's website (check out a coupon code down below!). It has a pointy tip and squeezable bottle to easily dispense the product. It claims to hydrate and renew aging skin.
"A hydroxy acid concentrate of Lactic Acid, Salicylic Acid and Hibiscus Extract exfoliates dead skin cells, revealing new skin and improving skin texture."

They recommend to use once or twice a day, and just a few drops and gently massage it all over face and neck OR add it to your moisturizer for added hydration.

Here's the ingredients that is listed on Dermalogica's website:

ingredients

Water/Aqua/Eau, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Lactic Acid, Butylene Glycol, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Isodecyl Salicylate, Sodium Hydroxide, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Extract, Centaurea Cyanus Flower Extract, Citrus Medica Limonum (Lemon) Fruit Extract, Citrus Aurantium Amara (Bitter Orange) Flower Extract, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Extract, Hibiscus Rosa-Sinensis Extract, Lecithin, PEG-100 Stearate, Glyceryl Stearate, Sclerotium Gum, Polysorbate 20, Retinol, Salicylic Acid, Polyquaternium-37, PEG-12 Dimethicone, Pentylene Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, Sodium PCA, Methylparaben, Ethylparaben, Butylparaben, Propylparaben, Isobutylparaben.

My Verdict:

After washing and applying my witch hazel toner, I use this on it's own and massage it all over my cheeks and around my nose. I wait a little bit to apply my sunscreen in the morning, and at night I apply it before my moisturizer and Tazorac cream (prescribed retinol cream) to let the product sink into my skin. I usually don't need to wait that long since my skin do quickly absorbs this product!
This has no fragrance in it and has no color. The consistency is almost gel-like because it's not as runny as water but not as thick like a cream-based moisturizer.
After only using it for the past 2-3 weeks, twice a day, I did see improvement on my cheek area, where I do have dry patches from breakouts healing. My foundation and concealer goes on smoother than accentuating my dry areas. I can only validate how it has given my skin some hydration as that's the only change I have seen. Even after exfoliating and moisturizing day and night my dry patches would not go away as my skin continues to heal from the break outs, but after using the product which is the only thing I have added to my routine, my skin does not look "thirsty" anymore!
Even though I have not broken out since using this product I don't want to say this has helped my acne since I am taking a medication for that.

I definitely want to try out more Dermalogica products after seeing this help with my dry skin. After learning my face does not like face oils (yes I have stopped using my fave argan oil or any other face oils now) since that's what caused me to break out in the first place, it is really great to find a product that is gentle enough on my skin but strong enough to give what it needs! I also love the fact that the founder built this product to improve our skin's health! I am all about being as healthy as possible as I am not getting any younger and do have a long list of medical history so I need to take care of myself.

Have you tried any Dermalogica products? What are your favorites?
